The Labeco L-38 Test Method is a technique for studying the resistance of engine crankcase oils to oxidation, copper-lead bearing corrosion, and deposition of varnish and sludge on engine parts under high-temperature heavy-duty service conditions. Such deposition is presumed to result from oil decomposition, oxidation, or other changes that occur in the lubricant in service.
