Atomic Absorption and Flame Emission Spectroscopy

Metals and metallic compounds are used extensively in the coatings industry. Pigments, extenders, and driers are just a few of the systems using metallic constituents. Many examples can be cited. Titanium dioxide is an excellent white pigment, while iron oxides provide many important coloring pigments. Some of the most vivid and attractive colors are produced by organometallic pigments. Lead octoate, manganese and lead tallates, and cobalt and iron naphthenates are used widely as driers. Phenylmercuric acetate is used frequently as a preservative in latex paints.
