Particle Size Measurement

Source

In coatings and similar prcxiucts, the criteria for best performance of particulate ingredients—inorganic, organic, extender, and metallic flake pigments, and the dispersed phase of latexes—depends in large measure on the size and shape of the particles composing the particulate materials. Examples of these relationships appear in other parts of this book. The importance of particle size measurement including the amount of coarse oversize particles is evident. In this book it is practical to cover in detail the many procedures employed in the measurements, but the brief descriptions are supported by references to the literature. Also cited are textbooks for the reader who desires to acquaint himself with general theory [1–8]. The recent book by Allen [8] can be particularly helpful.
