Tensile Strength and Modulus of a Three-Dimensional Braid Composite

Source

A geometric model for three-dimensional braid composite using the concept of average cosine is presented in this paper. In the form of contour diagrams, the fabric geometry and processing variables are related to the tensile strength and modulus of the composite. The tensile properties of the three-dimensional braid AS4-3K graphite/5208 epoxy-resin composite are compared to the state-of-the-art laminated unidirectional, woven and quasi-isotropic composites. A comparison between theoretical and experimental results are also made.
