Toward a Knowledge-Based Fire Safety System

Source

Two complementary systems techniques are presented for systematically describing building fire safety. These techniques are the Decision Tree developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Systems Concepts Committee and the Building Firesafety Model developed by the NFPA as part of a project to study residential fire safety. The Decision Tree graphically describes the alternative means for achieving fire safety, while the Building Firesafety Model is a tool for calculating the actual risks associated with fire. These tools provide an initial step toward a more rigorous approach to defining fire safety.
