Dose and Energy Dependence of Helium Ion Irradiated Monel-400

Source

Monel-400 was irradiated with helium ions of energies varying from 2 to 3 MeV in Van-de-Graaff. Dose and energy dependence of surface damage was studied. A minimum dose, which gave rise to observable surface damage in Monel-400 at 2 MeV, was 5 × 1020 ions/m2. This increased to 7.5 × 1020 ions/m2 at 3 MeV. The present experiments resulted in the formation of exfoliations without observable blisters. There were repetitive layers of exfoliated area on irradiation to higher doses for all the energies.
