European Community Action on the Management of Waste Products

The objectives of the European Economic Community (EEC) in actions regarding waste are prevention, recycling, and elimination. The EEC's environmental action programs set out the priorities and aims of the organization, as well as supply the necessary legal backing for the resulting actions and provide insight into the institutional and legal background of the EEC.

The three main spheres of action, which form the basis of the EEC's environmental policy, are (1) prevention of the production of waste products, (2) elimination, without danger, of nonrecoverable residues, and (3) recycling and reuse of wastes. Statistical data are presented to show the scale of the problem in the ten member states.
