Particle Sizing by Optical, Nonimaging Techniques

Source

Optical, nonimaging techniques for sizing liquid particles of diameters greater than 1 μm are reviewed. Nonimaging optical diagnostics separate into two classes, ensemble or multi-particle analyzers and single particle counters (SPC). A discussion and analysis of the theoretical basis, performance characteristics, and calibration considerations for the various methods in each class is presented. Laser diffraction ensemble techniques, crossed-beam dual-scatter interferometric SPC, and finally single beam SPC based on the measurement of partial light-scattering cross sections of the particles are considered in detail.
