Creep Analysis of Laminates


Results are presented for an analytical investigation of the creep response of laminated composites. This analysis relates the creep response of the composite to the fiber-matrix creep properties. First, the method of predicting the biaxial creep response of a unidirectional composite is described and some qualitative results given. Some interesting effects are the time dependence of the coefficients of thermal expansion of the composite and the pseudo-primary creep stage in a composite whose constituents only exhibit secondary creep. The analysis is then extended to symmetric laminates and the creep response of boron-epoxy and boron-aluminum composites are investigated.
