International Standards—Impact on American Metrication

Source

This paper is an account of why metric engineering standards are essential to metric conversion; why these standards must be based upon international agreement to avoid technical barriers to trade; and why the United States must participate fully in their development if good U. S. standards and engineering practices are to gain proper recognition in international metric standards. National and international trends in and attitudes toward international standardization are described, problem areas identified, and a national metric standards strategy proposed.
