Effect of Removing Eccentricity from Button Tensile Adhesion Tests

Source

Adhesive testing is done for several reasons, including quality control, strength comparisons, and obtaining adhesive joint design data. However, the reported bond strengths often vary so much that interpretations are not clear. One reason for this variation is examined in this study. Since stress distribution and debond load are very sensitive to alignment of the test specimen, test grips have been designed to alleviate the alignment sensitivity in tensile adhesion tests. A large decrease in data variation was observed when modified test grips were used with epoxy tensile adhesion specimens.
