A Graphical Approach to the Problem of the Stress-Strain Relationship of Normally Consolidated Clays


A graphical method of predicting the strains undergone by a normally consolidated specimen of saturated remolded clay when subjected to a stress increment in a triaxial compression test is described. The data required can be obtained from undrained (constant volume) tests and consolidation (constant principal stress ratio) tests, and from these results, when presented graphically, the strain in any other type of compression test (σ1′ > ′3, σ1′ increasing) can be determined quickly and simply by the method described.
