Pore Pressure Functions in Saturated Soils

Source

The pore pressure functions α and β for saturated normally consolidated clays are presented. The theory is developed in terms of the octahedral normal and shear stresses. The influence of the third invariant of the deviator stress tensor is taken into account according to ideas presented in a previous paper. The functions α and β depend on the parameter v, which gives a measure of the degree of distribution of the shear stresses. The theory is extended to saturated overconsolidated clays by the introduction of two additional functions, αp and βp, both of which depend on the parameter v and the degree of overconsolidation. Correlations with experimental data are made showing a very satisfactory agreement.
