Shear Strength of Soil in a General Stress Field

Source

A theory is developed that predicts quantitatively the effects of the intermediate principal stress on the strength of cohesionless material. The strength under conditions other than those of the conventional triaxial test can be computed from triaxial test data by this theory. The predictions of the theory for cohesionless soils are validated by the previously published experimental results of other investigators.
