Special Languages, Terminology Planning and Standardization

Source

Special languages are the common concern of several groupings of our society. Special languages play an important role in standardization because knowledge is conveyed primarily by linguistic means. Subject communication is greatly facilitated if standardized terminology is used. An overview of the various efforts of terminology planning and standardization is provided with special emphasis given to the international activities and standards of ISO/TC 37, “Terminology (Principles and Co-Ordination).” Also, some of the possible applications of standardized terminologies, such as knowledge-based systems, are discussed.
