Statistical Analysis of Fibrous Composite Strength Data


Using standard statistical procedures, distributional forms for fibrous composite strength data are examined for goodness of fit. Six examples of strength data for epoxy reinforced with Kevlar 49, fiber glass, and Thornel 300 graphite fabrics, as well as unidirectional T300/5208 graphite/epoxy composites, were examined. The data were evaluated using the chi-square and Kolmogorov-Smirnov goodness-of-fit statistical tests and the correlation coefficient from linear regression analysis. The distributional forms tested were normal, log normal, 2-parameter Weibull, and 3-parameter Weibull. At the 5 percent significance level, none of these was rejected.
