Heat-Transfer Model for Fibrous Insulations


A model has been developed that describes the insulation property of fibrous insulation. The assumptions necessary for the derivation and possible limitations are discussed.

Analysis of the model shows the effect of mean temperature and the effect of the insulation thickness on the effective thermal conductivity. The model provides a convenient way of predicting the thermal resistance at full thickness. Implementation of the technique, however, requires further tests with standardized equipment.

Further extensions of the model and modifications of the standard measuring techniques of the standard calibration specimen have been outlined. Areas requiring further research are indicated.
