Application of the Andreasen Pipet to the Determination of Particle Size Distribution of Portland Cement and Related Materials

Source

The procedure for determining particle size distribution and calculating specific surface area of portland cement from Andreasen pipet data is described. Size distribution data are compared with results from the Wagner turbidimeter, Roller analyzer, Haultain Infrasizer, micromesh sieves and woven wire sieves. Surface area calculated from the Andreasen pipet data is compared with values from the Blaine air permeability apparatus. A combination of the techniques of sieve analysis, particle size analysis by sedimentation, and surface area determination by permeameter leads to a size characterization of portland cement.
