Effect of Thermocouple Drift on Rupture Life at High Temperature

Source

Rupture life of Waspaloy in four tests under 9050-psi stress at 1700 F nominal temperature tended to be longer when temperature was adjusted in accordance with the reading of a noble metal thermocouple than when Type K base metal thermocouples were used. Drift of the reading of the base metal thermocouples relative to that of an adjacent noble metal thermocouple did not exceed 3 F in tests of nearly 400-h duration.
