Innovative Method for Determining Minimum Detectable Limits in Permeation Testing


A method has been developed to determine minimum detectable limits for permeation testing of protective clothing. A syringe pump is used to deliver the chemical of interest into the ASTM standard permeation cell at a very slow rate. A constant low-level concentration is sent to the detector via the same pathway the permeant would travel. Efforts have been made to optimize the method. Validation experiments designed to check the linearity of response have been performed. The syringe pump method for determining minimum detectable limits is applicable to other permeation testing systems.
