The Need for International Cooperation Regarding Approvals

Source

Research shows that chemical protective equipment should be permeation tested against the exact chemical it is expected to protect against. Because more than 10 000 different chemicals are used today, the amount of permeation testing is immense.

Public reaction to and the legal ramifications of inadequate protection are discussed. A negotiation model, including the four major interests to be fulfilled by an international approval or certification system, is established.

Standards and certification concepts are defined as well as the roles of the organizations involved. Due to the amount of testing, if a national approval or certification system for chemical protective clothing is created, then it should be designed with the prospect of becoming international at a later stage.

A data presentation form that can be implemented immediately by manufacturers of chemical protective equipment is proposed.
