Simulating Automotive Exposure for Corrosion Testing of Trim Material

Source

To predict the corrosion performance of trim materials on automobiles, it is important that the method of exposure as well as the test environment accurately reflect actual service conditions. The method of exposure must duplicate the various trim configurations. Variables which impact test results include the geometry of the test specimen and area relationships for galvanic effects. Test specimens fulfilling these requirements for trim materials are described. The results of tests in suitable environments for a number of trim systems on various auto-body materials are presented and compared with the service performance of the trim systems.
