Spray Drift Deposits from Low Volume Application Using Oil and Water Carriers

Source

Twelve direct drift comparisons were made from four atomizers using soybean oil and water as the spray carrier. Downwind drift deposits from the rotary atomizer and air-assist nozzles depended on operating conditions. The use of oil for application of chemicals provided little difference in drift reduction as compared to water. Oil has a nonevaporative character compared to water and so deposited higher amounts and drifted further downwind. With conventional twin-orifice and flat fan nozzles oil drifted further downwind than water. Comparing nozzle types, low volume applicators showed more downwind drift than conventional nozzles.
