Detection of Inherent Heterogeneities in Cement Strength Records by Means of Segmentation

Source

Five series of cement strength data are analyzed by means of an appropriate segmentation technique, which makes it possible to detect inherent heterogeneities hidden in these records. This heterogeneous aspect follows from the fact that the mean strength level presents a step-wise variation in time, rather than a continuous one. It is indicated that the variation of the mean value of the segments contributes significantly to the total variance of the strength records. Finally, it is mentioned that a similar model is applicable to concrete strength records.
