Sampling Techniques to Determine Droplet Size Spectrum for Fan Nozzles


Droplet size measurements obtained by sampling at discrete spray plume locations were compared to those obtained by sweeping the spray plume from fan nozzles through the sampling area of a laser droplet imaging probe. A mixture of water, 2.5% Tenneco 500/100 solvent and 0.5% Titron X-100 adjuvant was sprayed through flat spray and even flat spray nozzles. The distribution of spray volume across the spray plume, Dv0.5, % volume <204 μm, % volume >415 μm and % volume between 204 and 415 μm are presented for discrete location and sweep methods of sampling.
