Phase-Doppler Measurements Near the Nozzle in a Low-Pressure Water Spray

Source

Phase-Doppler measurements of drop size and velocity were made in a spray of water from a swirl jet oil burner nozzle, operating at pressures from 207 to 345 kPa. These drop-size and velocity distributions, taken in the near field, are a direct reflection of the characteristics of the breakup process, because the surrounding gas stream has had little effect on the newly formed drops. The experimental results agree well with the predictions of the breakup process made using the maximum entropy formalism in conjunction with physical constraints dictated by the laws of conservation.
