Void Formation and Induced-Segregation During Electron-Irradiation in Ti and Nb Modified Austenitic Steels

The relationship between void formation and radiationinduced segregation (RIS) has been studied in austenitic steels modified by addition of Ti and Nb after electron-irradiation to 32 dpa at 673-823 K. The void swelling was reduced with increasing Ni content and decreasing Cr content. A remarkable segregation of Ni and Cr was detected at irradiated areas, which was induced by the point defect flow along the radial direction of the electron beam. There is a strong relationship between void swelling and RIS, that is, after the matrix Ni content is reduced by 10%, the swelling increases almost linearly with the increase of segregated Ni fraction. These results suggest that RIS and void formation could progress under the same process of the interaction between solute atoms and point defects, even in such modified steels.
