Standards for the Representation of Thermodynamic Data for Inorganic Materials

Source

Thermodynamic data are now being used routinely in the calculation of chemical and metallurgical equilibria in multicomponent systems. For these purposes the data must all have been assessed using self-consistent reference data for the elements and key binary systems. International cooperation is vital in order to maintain the necessary standards and generate the required data. The paper describes the role of CODATA, IUPAC, SGTE, CALPHAD and APDIC in these activities, the principles of the methods and their relevance to the design, processing and application of engineering materials.
