The Force Interplay Between the Foot, Binding, and Ski in Cross-Country Skiing

Source

The frequency of skiing injuries that occur during cross-country skiing is increasing, depending on new ski equipment, skiing style, and so forth. Comparative investigations of the breaking strengths for skis made of wood and fiberglass and different types of cross-country bindings and boots have been tested and compared against fracture strength data of the tibia and the knee. A combination of bending- and torsion-fracturemoment from the whole man-equipment system indicates a need for cross-country ski bindings with release functions for the future.
