An Overview of Flea Control - Indoors

Source

In the past five to nine years the economic impact of the cat flea, Ctenocephalides felis, in the United states, has increased dramatically. Several hundred million dollars are spent annually to control this pest alone. Many pest management strategies include the treatment of the pet, treatment of indoor areas, and treatment of outdoor areas. This is sometimes called integrated pest management or IPM. Attempts to control fleas in these areas can be done by the pet owner/consumer, a veterinarian, or a pest control operator. This paper will give an overview of what the consumer can and does use to treat indoor areas.

Chemicals used, treatment forms, cost, and effectiveness of various product forms will be discussed. Laboratory, field, and consumer test results will be reviewed and discussed where applicable.
