In-Plane Biaxial Compressive Deformation and Failure of E-Glass/Epoxy Laminates

Source

This paper presents the development of a test system and associated experimental procedure for evaluating in-plane biaxial compressive deformation and failure of fiber composite laminates. A description of the test system and the design of fixtures and specimen are given. Critical buckling stress of the specimen is determined analytically and compared to the experimentally obtained compressive strength. The capability of this testing system and accuracy of the experimental results are discussed and evaluated. A series of tests have been conducted on E-glass/epoxy composite laminates with different lamination variables and stress biaxiality ratios. Compressive failure strengths of composite materials are determined in various in-plane biaxial loading conditions.
