Assessing the Role of Steel Corrosion in the Deterioration of Concrete in the National Infrastructure : A Review of the Causes of Corrosion and Current Diagnostic Techniques

Concrete forms a major component of the national infrastructure. The interaction between corrosion of embedded steel and deterioration of concrete is of concern to the engineers involved with infrastructure maintenance. If an effective repair and maintenance strategy is to be planned, it is important to understand the forms and causes of deterioration and corrosion damage in concrete structures. Equally important is an understanding of the range of test methods available to diagnose the cause and determine the extent of such damage.
