Evaluation of an Atmospheric Corrosion Rate Monitor

Source

An Atmospheric Corrosion Rate Monitor (ACRM) with an improved polarization resistance type sensor design was evaluated. A year of hourly average sensor data were correlated with simultaneously collected environmental data and corrosion data measured by mass loss and a rain runoff technique. The study was done at an exposure site in the Research Triangle Park, NC. Sensor responses to wetness were reproducible. Although the sensors were sensitive enough to detect environmental changes other than wetness, these changes are apparently affecting cell resistance rather than polarization resistance. The ACRM may be modified to measure polarization resistance.
