A New Lower Leg Prosthesis with Simulation Device for the Achilles Tendon

Source

In former investigations it could be shown that binding release by active plantar flexion of the ankle joint has to be considered a regular heel release mechanism that occurs, in particular, in slow frontal ski falls. Based on these findings it seemed necessary to design a new lower leg prosthesis for testing ski boot design and skier/ski boot/ski binding interactions. This new lower leg prosthesis is presented in the following, and preliminary results of some pilot tests with the new prosthesis are demonstrated.
