Selection and Development of Protective Clothing for Fire Fighters -- A Case Study for Users' Assessment of Standards, Tests and Performance Requirements

Effective use and care of fire fighter's protective clothing and equipment entails a whole system of selection, application and assessment needs. Users - fire departments and fire fighters expect those selecting and designing equipment to understand protection requirements and limits of design criteria and tests. Selection of some limits and material properties may present variations and constraints on protective performance. Observations outline some efforts in technical literature, field trials and user experience to interpret and assess tests, designs, and standards for protective clothing.
