Using Vibration Strip Transducers for Measuring Water Levels in Monitoring Wells

Source

A new system is presented that permits unattended measuring of water levels in monitoring wells. The system consists of a sensor connected by an umbilical cord to a data collector all of which can be installed in a monitoring well as small as 51 mm ID. The data collector stores up to 10,000 data points. Sampling frequency, start/stop times, and engineering unit selection are made by the user via portable PC DOS computer connected to the collector through the standard communication port of the computer. The described system provides the means to achieve the precision required in ASTM Standard D4750 “Standard Test Method for Determining Subsurface Liquid Levels in a Borehole or Monitoring Well (Observation Well).”
