Expert Systems Interfaces for Materials Data Bases

Source

The future course of more intelligent systems as interfaces for materials data bases is reviewed in comparison with an ideal information service supplied by human experts. The ability to understand a wide range of materials information is discussed in connection with a variety of services, ranging from a retrospective search of the original measured information and continuing through value-added procedures of grouping and abstraction. Linking computerized materials data bases and information systems poses problems in handling and organizing incomplete knowledge, which can be solved by valued-added procedures. An idea “simulator” that poses and answers a wide variety of questions to substitute for experiments is proposed. This simulator integrates the relevant data on the materials.
