CODATA Activities on Materials Data

Source

The International Council of Scientific Unions Committee on Data for Science and Technology, (CODATA), is broadly representative of the industrialized nations. Because of this wide international constitution, CODATA has served as an effective catalyst in bringing together those who are involved in producing, managing, and using materials data systems and in arranging collaborative efforts between them. This role is currently being fulfilled by the identification of national and multinational materials data projects and of the experts who are involved in them; the promotion of awareness and communication; influencing the preparation of standards, guidelines, and consistent terminology; and the dissemination of knowledge and practices in the technology of building and using materials data bases. In addition, CODATA aims to assist the materials data base manager by drawing attention to and providing information on such issues as liability, cost-benefits, and user-friendliness.
