Microfabric Features, Composition, and Microstructure Classification of Marine Soils in China

Microfabric and composition of marine soils on the coastal continental shelf of each sea area in China have been analyzed with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy disperse analysis of X-ray (EDAX), X-ray diffraction analysis (XDA), and laser microanalysis (LMA). It has been found that the microstructure of marine soil is very complex and variable. It is not only related to deposition and the environment but also closely related to the origin of the composition matter. Based on the microfabric features of the soil, a system of classification of the microstructure of these sediments has been proposed. Different types of the microstructure have different engineering properties.
