The Use of Zirconium in Nitric Environment Corrosion Studies

Source

Different corrosion studies, performed on zirconium and its alloys in nitric acid environment, are described. The main topics are as follows: (1) behavior of the different grades of zirconium, (2) influence of metallurgical state, environment characteristics and some practical uses, and (3) resistance to stress corrosion cracking. In most cases, the results were satisfactory and zirconium showed an outstanding behavior in comparison with stainless steels.
