Combustion Fundamentals of Low Volatility Materials in Oxygen-Enriched Atmospheres

Source

The different principles underlying ignition, flame spread and mass burning of condensed phase materials are described fundamentally and in detail. Brief analytical developments of the parameters which affect these various aspects of material flammabillty are presented and the major results are interpreted in light of enriched oxygen conditions and metal and polymer combustibility. The limitations of ASTM LOI (Limiting Oxygen Index) and heat release tests are discussed in light of the fundamentals developed.
