Measurement of HCl in Flue Gas by Infrared Spectroscopy with the Spectran 677 Infrared HCl Monitoring System


According to the Federal Immissions Control Law, most waste incineration plants in the Federal Republic of Germany are equipped with a continuously operating monitoring device to control hydrochloric acid (HCl) emissions. The Spectran 677 infrared HCl-emission monitoring system of the Bodenseewerk Gerätetechnik GmbH, a long-path gas cell nondispersive infrared (NDIR) photometer that has been on the market since 1979, is described. The system is designed for HCl measurement after gas cleaning systems. The sampling system can also be modified for measuring HCl after dry scrubbers or after wet scrubbers. Field experiences are reported.
