Solvent and Surfactant Influence on Flash Points of Pesticide Formulations

Source

Intensified regulatory activity from various sources is guiding the consideration of higher flash (lower volatility) materials as preferred components in pesticide formulations. An update on the current issues surrounding storage and packaging of flammable and combustible liquids is presented.

For this paper, the term “components” refers to nonactive materials and includes solvent or solvent blends and surfactants used in the formulations. The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of multiple component solvent systems on flash point. Also, the effect of surfactants in the formulation will be reviewed.

Nonlinearity of flash points when different components are blended for the purpose of improving active solubility, formulation efficacy, evaporation rate, or other parameter is demonstrated.
