Methodology for Adjusting Reactor Pressure Vessel Embrittlement Predictions Using Heat-Specific Surveillance Data

Source

An approach is presented for adjusting a generic embrittlement trend curve (ETC) for trend and bias differences to measured reactor pressure vessel steel heat-specific Charpy embrittlement shift data. With heat-specific embrittlement measurements, prediction certainty is increased; therefore, the uncertainty term of the ETC can be reduced. A technical basis is presented quantifying product-form-specific uncertainty terms when heat-specific measurements are available using the ASTM E900-15 embrittlement database. For steel heats irradiated in different plants, additional uncertainty was observed with an associated increased uncertainty term developed. The approach depends on the number of heat-specific embrittlement measurements available.
