New Test Capabilities for the Evaluation of Material Flammability in Oxygen-Enriched Atmospheres

Source

Recent work within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Queensland has led to the development of a new test system for the study of material flammability in oxygen-enriched atmospheres. The test system has the capability of providing either static or flowing oxygen-enriched test environments. Though the actual combustion containing hardware is similar to other systems presently used to study the combustion of metallic materials, the new system offers excellent instrumentation capabilities presently unavailable in NASA and other industrial test systems. A description of the test system is presented and research programs underway discussed.
