Combining In Situ Monitoring and X-Ray Computed Tomography to Assess the Quality of Parts Manufactured by Laser Powder Bed Fusion and Electron Beam Melting

Source

In the most recent metal powder bed fusion systems, different in situ monitoring sensors are available. The information from this data can be used to gain knowledge about the part quality. Experiments were carried out on two sets of parts: one produced by laser powder bed fusion and one by electron beam melting. Both sets of parts were analyzed in terms of their monitoring data and additional computed tomography scans. This paper shows different quality assessment approaches with conventional methods and modern machine learning.
