Water Dispersible Granule Formulation Techniques

Source

This paper demonstrates a simple method of screening wetting and dispersing surfactants for Water Dispersible Granule formulations. The method is intended to reduce the number of dry mill trials needed to establish a suitable combination of wetting and dispersing ingredients. Using this method, it is possible to quickly screen a large number of additives eliminating those that do not promote a well dispersed and highly suspensible formulation. The technical is slurried in water with various combinations of wetting and dispersing agents and wet milled. Dilutions of the slurry are visually evaluated to determine if flocculation occurs. Potential candidates are determined based on the wetting and dispersing agents that produce a uniform suspension, free of flocculation. These candidates are further optimized using the traditional dry mill and agglomeration trials.
