EIFS Mesh Coating Improvements

Source

Woven glass fabric mesh is one of the critical components that make up exterior insulation finishing system (EIFS) assemblies. The mesh has many performance and use requirements. One of the aspects of the mesh that allows these requirements to be met is the coating applied to the mesh. Water-based polymer coatings can be developed that balance the wide variety of EIFS performance requirements, including environmental stability, shelf stability, processability, fire resistance, antiblocking, cuttability, and conformability. These parameters are all critical to the function, quality, and longevity of the EIFS assembly. Because EIFS are tested and listed in accordance with model building code evaluation services with approved components, the use of non-tested and non-approved components can lead to quality issues and loss of warranty coverage. These sorts of issues ultimately can hurt the perception of EIFS in the exterior cladding marketplace. The importance of EIFS manufacturers knowing where all the components of their system come from is obvious for these reasons.
