Operating Airport Weapons Detectors in the 1990s

More stringent regulation on walk-through gun detectors for airports are imminent. The expected increase in alarms from innocent objects, their underlying causes, and typical examples are examined from an operator's viewpoint. The changes in passenger habits, security stations, and improved detectors that can minimize the increase in alarms are discussed from a historical perspective.
