Silicone Rubber Latex Sealants

Source

Silicone rubber latex is an aqueous dispersion of silicone rubber particles that forms elastomers upon evaporation of water. Silicone rubber latex is formulated into sealants by incorporating fillers, pigmnets and other additives. Silicone rubber latex is prepared by crosslinking emulsions of poly(dimethylsiloxane) using a tin catalyst. Properties of silicone rubber latex sealants differ in some respects from those of traditional RTV silicone sealants. This paper describes preparation of silicone rubber latex and silicone rubber latex sealants. Properties of both uncured and cured silicone rubber latex sealant are also discussed.
